Olympic Torch Tower, Atanta, Georgia

A few years ago I went on a small road trip to the Carolinas and on my way, I drove through Atlanta, Georgia. It was pouring down rain so I didn't stop to really take in all that this major southern city has to offer. When driving through, I noticed this torch and knew that the Olympics were held here in 1996.

This Olympic Torch Tower was a tourist attraction years ago with an observation deck and a gift shop. However, it has since closed due to lack of interest. You can see the torch as you are driving down I-75.

There are several venues still in Atlanta that were used for the Summer 1996 Olympics. Unfortunately, all I was able to see was the torch but still thought it was cool because hey! I remember those Olympics!

Forrest Gump Bench, Savannah, Georgia

Forrest Gump was released in 1994 staring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, and Sally Field. This movie was an instant hit in box offices and even won the Academy Award for Best Picture. This classic film tells the story of a man with an IQ of 75 and all of the amazing historical events that he encountered in his life. He tells all of these stories on a bench to people waiting for the bus to arrive.

All of these scenes were filmed in Savannah, Georgia.

The name of the square the scenes are filmed at is "Chippewa Square." For the movie, a bench was installed. For fear of weather damage or being stolen, after filming was complete, the bench was moved again to a permanent home at Savannah History Museum.

About 100 yards away, there is a church that is featured in the opening credits. It is seen as the feather blows by.
